Information
on Biostimulants
This is a photo of roots that are under stress. |
Much like the daily vitamins
and supplements that we humans take each day, biostimulants helps
deliver needed nutrients to the roots in times of stress.
Some stress can be due to
insects or pest like mole crickets or nematodes, and other stress can be
due to heat, drought or disease. Each one of these stresses either
remove certain nutrients from the soil or disables the roots ability to
extract needed materials. When this happens the plant or its roots will
not produce enough vitamins, amino acids or hormones. This is where the
biostimulants take over to aid in the recovery by supplementing those
elements in the soil the plant is having difficulty in producing. Much
like when we have a cold, Vitamin C has shown to deliver deficient
elements back to the body by helping absorption. This is also true with
biostimulants. |
The Effects of Humates and Biostimulants on Plants
Biostimulants and Humates have shown to
influence several metabolic processes such as respiration,
photosynthesis, nucleic acid synthesis and ion uptake. Within the cell,
humates and humic acid can effect and influence the production of RNA
which is essential for several biological processes. These have also
shown to improve chlorophyll content within the plant, which produces
greener leaves. In several research studies, biostimulants and humates
have shown to decrease such problems like chlorosis by enabling the
plant to uptake minerals already available within the soil profile. Also
they have been shown to enable antioxidant activity in both the soil and
within the plant, especially when the plants are under stress. |
What will Biostimulants do for me?
In
many cases, biostimulants utilized on lawns and turf will recover
quickly from stress and rejuvenate the root system. This will show a
greener, richer, thicker lawn or turf surface.
Biostimutlants will also help keep disease and stress down to a minimum.
All while increasing and developing a healthier root system.
In the age where caution has to be utilized in chemicals placed on turf,
lawns, landscape, horticulture and agriculture, biostimulants can help
by utilizing organic means of replenishing needed nutrients into the
soil, while enabling the plant to uptake applied products more
efficiently decreasing the overall amount of nitrate rich fertilizers,
pesticides and fungicides.
